Card in a Box (X-tra large)

I finally braved the waters and tried my hand at the latest craze-----Card in a Box. You can see my very first one here on my blog. This is my second attempt.

I was a bit intimidated until I found one in the Silhouette Store. It's a Lori Whitlock Box Card. I figured I would fare much better letting my machine do the cutting and measuring. I like big cards! With that being said, I decided to venture out to see if I could make a larger one, and I did! Here's one I did for my friend who is a teacher as well as a cheerleading coach. You may actually see it before she does. It's been hard to catch up with her lately.

Here's how I made it:

I started out by increasing the size of the design in the Silhouette store to 17 inches wide and 7 inches high. Using a 12 x 24 mat I cut out the box using The DCWV 12 x 24 inch card stock. My friends and I picked up a couple packs of these a few years ago when T.J. Maxx was clearing them out for $5.50 each. I always knew they would come in handy one day! lol.

I did not realize, until I had cut out the box, that this particular cardstock is adhesive backed!. So I had to decorate each side to keep them from sticking together.

 I didn't mind though, it was fun putting the colors together. Here are the 2 covered inserts

Once I had all my adhesive sides decorated, I began the construction: 

You then add your cut-outs, flowers or whatever embellishments you like to finish.

Here's the box folded up. Now keep in mind, the folded box card is 8 x 7 so you will need a large envelope for mailing.

Gypsy Made Simple - Creating A Box

Good Day. Well it is back to school time. I can't believe that this summer went so fast. I hope you all had a great time, maybe took a little vacation and went someplace special. I actually was blessed and got to spend a week on the beach as well as a short trip to Chicago to see my family! There is nothing better than spending time with family, is there?

Well today we are going to make a box.... not from TBBM but from any cart that you have a square on it. I used George, you can use what ever you have on your Gypsy. I have received a couple of requests on making boxes in this fashion as once you learn how to maneuver this yo can make just about anything on your Gypsy! So let's get to work. Turn your Gypsy on and grab a cup of coffee...

I know this is a lot to take in, but hang in there you will get it. If you got lost in the tape, rewind and start back where you got lost. It is important to just take this step by step. ONE ADJUSTMENT PLEASE! When you get to making your lid use a measurement of 3.12 instead of the 3.2 that I used. My lid is a little looser than I like it and I think you will enjoy your box more if it is a little secure... not tight, just secure is how you want it.

I enjoyed putting this box together. I must say I spent a lot more time on the lid but I just love how it turned out. Now you can leave yours plain of course or decorate it. Make the box to your taste. Also if you are unsure of how you did, cut it on paper you don't really like for a test and put together. If it fits and looks just the way you want it, then do your final cut on beautiful card stock.

This week I challenge you to make a box and link it up. You can leave it plain or decorated, acetate window or no window. Just make the box and link it up.

Here is a close up of the lid I decorated. Don't you love it? It is so feminine and just sparkles, yet you can still see in the inside of the box.

Now I just used a one sided paper, but for added contrast do a double sided paper. You will love the dramatic effect especially if your paper is a coordinating paper rather than just one color.

See what I mean about the lid.... I really think that I should have made it just a little smaller so it would have a secure fit to it.

Here is another close up of the box, as you can see it came out just perfect. Always remember to score those edges so that you have nice crisp folds like this has.

Altered Chocolate Box

Hi ya everyone!  This is Melissa from Melissa Made and I'm sharing a little altered box I made with you today.  I missed a very special friends (*wink *wink) birthday and I just simply had to go over the top with something for her.  I had a Godiva Chocolate box that was empty but the box itself had a unique shape.  I kept it for altering.  I painted the entire thing with Gesso which is an acrylic primer paint.  I then used a tan acrylic to paint the outside.  I covered the majority of it with some beautiful papers and flowers.  I created a video describing some of the simple things I did.

After finishing the box I filled it with all sorts of little goodies for her!  I hope she enjoys it and you do too!

Strawberry Box - Cricut Flower Shoppe

Today I created a Strawberry Box to mimic the Sizzix Big Shot Pro Strawberry Box Die.
I came across this die a few days ago and thought what a great idea it would be to make some of these cute boxes to put candy and give out this coming Sunday at my niece's 9th B-day celebration... but (there's always a but), at $59.99 plus shipping and time of arrival, it would have not serve the purpose intended.  So I set out to see if  any of the flower Cricut cartridges I own would have something similar without me having to design the whole thing.  The first cartridge booklet I opened! there it was!...

... and this is how I made it using the Flower Shoppe Cricut cartridge:

 1-Cut flower Mum2 pg. 21 at 12.42" h

 2-Fold in half and score

 3-Repeat #2 three times (only 3 possible ways to score in half)

 4-Cut down one of the petals from the valley to the center of the flower

 5-Cut on the other side of same petal leaving a piece as a tab to adhere in next step

6-Adhere tacky tape to tab and adhere together to adjacent petal

7-Punch holes on tip of each petal

 8-Thread desired ribbon or string (I tried the pink side, but decided for the red)

 9-Tie together

10-Cut topper Sunflower4 pg. 17 at 5"  (now that I look at it, I think I will cut at 4" next time)

11-Emboss with desired  folder (if desired)
12-Ink and add Shimmer (if desired)

 13-Embellished as desired (after looking at it some more, next time I will add larger embellishments)

Not bad for my first try! (if I might say so...)

Easy box with matching card!

Gift Box for a Wedding Present

Hi all, Becky Roper here from Journey to Creativity. I hope you are all having a great summer, it's been a busy one for me. So let's get started, first I want to thank Sheila, aka Sassy Lady, for giving me the opportunity to share with you something that has a very special meaning to me. Today I would like to share with you a box that I made for my niece's wedding and a small gift to go inside.

I started with a paper mache' box purchased from Hobby Lobby. I added little wood feet called Candle Cup that I also purchased from the wood section at Hobby Lobby.

Using the French Manor cartridge and Cricut Cuttables, Adhesive-backed Stencil Material, I cut out a stencil for the top of the box. The size was 2.5 inches and I set the pressure on high, blade at 5 and multi-cut at 4.

I cut another stencil for the front and two sides of the box using the border function. The size is 1 inch, multi-cut at 3, blade at 5, pressure at max and speed at slow.

I laid the stencil on the box and then added Spackling Paste. The paste is very rough so you will need to smooth the paste as much as you can with a trowel. The top of the box had a few sections where the paper had separated so I added paste around the edge to seal up the seams.

Remove the stencil and allow the paste to dry. After the paste dries, lightly sand so that your image is completely smooth.

I then painted the box using Anita's Acrylic paint in Cream. After the box dried I added delta paints in Village Green and Think Pink. When applying the pink and green paint, I used water to thin the paint.

Using a sponge paint brush I applied Martha Stewart Copper ink to give the box an antiqued look.

I lined the box with decorative paper.

I then added the embellishments to GLAM it up. This is always my favorite part of a project. Now for a peek at the gift.

The gift was a garter that I made for my niece's wedding. I smocked it with hearts and added a pearl at the bottom of each heart. The pearls that I used came from the brides great grandmothers jewelery. This was just a small way to have our grandmother with us at this special event.
