Music themed birthday card

Hey everyone! It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail and I'm happy to share a guitar themed card I made for my son's recent birthday.  My son started taking guitar lessons earlier this year and is really enjoying it.  I decided that a guitar would be perfect to personalize a card for him.

This was a very simple card to put together.  The tag and shapes were from the Silhouette Online Store.  I didn't really like the tag as it was, so I used the internal offset feature to make the cream colored portion of the tag.  I like the shape much better than what originally came in this cut file.  I simply added some musical themed background paper and this card came together almost on its own!

And my son loved it--glad he likes my handmade cards!

Getting a jump on some Christmas cards!

Hi Everyone!  It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail and I am sharing a Christmas card today.  This is a super easy card that can be made with scraps or in bulk--it's that easy!  Mine happens to use some very traditional paper by Echo Park's "Christmas Reflections" line of paper.

I started with SU cardstock for my base. I then added a layer of kraft cardstock that I ran through my Cuttlebug using a striped embossing folder.  The stamped sentiment is by My Craft Spot from the "Mistletoe" stamp set.  I stamped it on a banner cut from the Silhouette Online Store that I sized for my stamp and card. I decided the kraft was blending in to my card too much, so I inked the edges for all of the kraft pieces, which provided just the right touch.

Wedding Dress Shaped Card

Hey everyone...It is Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail and do I have a pretty card to share with you today. Our family's first baby sitter is getting married in October and I wanted to create a special card for her special day.  

Check out this shaped card:

 

The card is a cut file from the Silhouette Online Store.  It has a rectangular back and a dress shaped front.  I used a dark grey for the card base and the rest of the papers are Neenah metallic papers.  I bought them at my local big box office supply store--so worth the money!  The papers are so shimmery and cut beautifully in my Cameo!

 

I added a few pearl accents, along with embossing so the dress was more interesting than just a flat piece of cardstock.

I think this may be my "go to" wedding card in the future.  So easy, yet huge impact.  Gotta love that!

Apple Thanks

Hello everyone...It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail and I have another apple card to share today.  I'm making a few cards to give to a teacher friend, and this one uses a scrap of really cute apple paper.

The paper is a scrap that I had picked up a long time ago at an Archivers Store. I so miss stopping in Archivers to shop while we were out traveling.  *sigh*  Anyway, I had enough to make two cards, so that started as my inspiration.  I cut the banner, scalloped piece and the circles using my Cameo.  The "thanks" is also a Silhouette Store find--isn't it perfect!  I simply adhered everything, then added a couple of shiny brads and had two cards made in no time flat.  I can hardly wait to give my friend a good supply of cards to have on hand.

Hey everyone...it is Sonya here today from Sonya's Paper Trail and I have a simple shaped card to share.  It's a cut file directly from the Silhouette Online Store and is just too cute.

I love shaped cards...such an effective way to send a simple greeting!  I used PTI white as my card base, so it is nice and sturdy.  The rest of the cardstock pieces are scraps.  The stamped greeting is by SP&Company (no longer selling stamps).  I added a couple of knots of Baker's Twine to add a little bit of visual interest and dimension.  Simple, and ready to mail to a friend who needs a lift!

Set of Four Apple Thank You Cards

Hi everyone--it's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail.   Today is the first day of school for my son, so it seemed fitting that I share a "school" themed project today.  It seems far too early for school to be starting.  For some parts of the country/world, I know you have a few weeks left of your vacation; but for us, we're back to the routine of school today.

I have a good friend who is a middle school math teacher.  Her son and mine play sports together and we've become very good friends over the past year.  She has mentioned how she always likes to have thank you notes on hand, so I decided I'd give her a few cards to be able to use throughout the school year.

 

The cut file came from the Silhouette Online Store.  It included the background card, apple, stem, leaf and the tag.  The whole package!

 

I used some Stampin' UP! patterned paper that I've had around for a long time.  I love simple stripes and polka dots.  So very useful and versatile.

 

I used a different "thank you" stamp for each card.  Each image was a My Craft Spot stamp that I had in my stash.  I also had the baker's twine in my collection for a couple of years.  

Even though everything I used was on the older side, I'm positive my friend won't care one bit and will be thrilled to have some fun cards to use.  Do you know a teacher who might enjoy some cards?  It might be fun to surprise him/her with a matching set!

Patriotic Birthday Card

Hi Everyone!  It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail here today.  We have a family friend who celebrates his birthday on July 4th.  I love that as a card maker, I can make his birthday card a festive one for Independence Day, too!

The entire card layout is a ready made card cut file from the Silhouette Online Store.  I did make it larger to fit an A2 card, but other than that, I left it as it was when I opened the file.  The patterned papers are by We R Memory Keepers, from the Red, White and Blue paper pad.  Cardstock is Not Quite Navy by Stampin' UP!.  The stamped sentiment is by CAS-ual Fridays from the WTF stamp set.  This was such a fun and easy card that looks like it ought to be much more complicated than it really was!

Father's Day Pegboard Card

Hey everyone...it's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail and today I'm sharing the card that I made for my husband for Father's Day.  My husband is one of those guys who can fix anything, which is probably a good thing since I tend to break a lot of things!  

Here's what I created for him:

 

The base of this card is from the Silhouette Online Store.  I decided that rather than cut out the tiny tools that went with the card cutfile, I would use my stamps to create the tools.  I used the "Totally Tool" stamp set by Stampin' UP! and colored those tools using my Copics.  I then fussy cut around each one, and adhered them to the pegboard with dimensional foam dots.  The lettering was in the original cut file, but rather than use paper (which I figured would tear), I used some vinyl and it worked like a charm.  Don't forget that vinyl sticks to paper and can make your life a lot easier, especially with scripty greetings!  Oh...and on the pegboard, I used a lot of chalk ink to make it look more realistic.

Father's Day Airplane Card

Hey everyone...Sonya here from Sonya's Paper Trail.  I've got a fun card to share today, it's a Father's Day card:

 

This one is for my Father In Law.  He's a big aviation enthusiast and I thought he'd like this card a lot.  The airplane cut is from the Silhouette Online Store.  It didn't come with a shadow cut, so I made my own by "assembling" the plane on my screen, then just creating a shadow.  It worked perfectly and gave more "bulk" to the plane.  I used a brad to hold the propeller down.  Notice the window?  I used Glossy Accents to make it look like it is a shiny piece of glass.  

The white piece of embossed paper has Liquid Pearls in the middle of each embossed swirl.  I just love when I can use this technique.  It sure adds some fun pizazz to a card.

And the best part of this card...all scraps!  I didn't cut into a single sheet of full sized paper to make this.  That makes me so happy!

Graduation Owl

Hey everyone....It is Sonya here today from Sonya's Paper Trail and I thought some of you might be needing some inspiration to make graduation cards this time of year.  Our babysitter (probably our last one, based on how quickly my son is growing up) is graduating from high school this year and I wanted to make her a special card in her school colors.  

This is what I came up with:

 

I love this super smart owl cut from the Silhouette Online Store.  I made one small change to it.  Instead of cutting out tiny black spots for his eyes, I simply used a black gemstone.  So very much easier and it adds just a tiny twinkle to the owl's eyes.

The patterned paper is by MME and is from the "Remarkable" stack.  That paper pad is just full of fabulous designs.  I know it will be put to good use!  The various cardstocks I used are by SU.

You've Taken Me To New Heights!

Happy May Sassy People!

Did you know Teacher’s Appreciation week is May 4th thru May 8th? With four little ones in school, you know I am busy! I haven’t decided if I am making cards and gifts for the immediate teachers or all of them…only time will tell!

Anywho, today I am sharing a non-traditional teacher appreciation card. I used some cuts from the Silhouette Store (hot air balloon, clouds & banner). I brought the images on the virtual mat and ungrouped them. I duplicated the ballon to stamp a weaving pattern on the Kraft card stock. I cut the balloon and clouds out. On a separate virtual mat, I typed out my sentiment and placed it on my banner to print and cut. I also changed the color of the banner. I did this by ungrouping the banner and changing the color for the fill and stroke. I changed the cut lines of the sentiment to no cut. I was ready for the pnc.

Once everything was cut, I used a piece of blue Bazzil textured card stock for the “sky”. I was going to emboss it, but because it was textured, I decided not to. I assembled card and placed the oversized banner on the card. I love the way it turned out! I will put it in a 5x7 envelope so the banner is not crinkled.

Feel Better

Hi everyone...It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail, and do I ever love the card I'm sharing.  It was a Pinterest inspired design, but totally adapted for the colors I like. It's always good to keep an eye out for layouts you like, but then adapt the colors for your preference.

I started with my Cameo and designed the basic background of the card.  I started with a standard mat in the polka dot paper, then layered three banners in the floral print.  The doily was a cut from the Silhouette Online Store.  Rather than edit it, I cut a full circle, then simply sliced it in half with my trimmer (and used the other one to make a second card!).  The butterfly is also from the Silhouette Online Store.  I added a few glitter pearls for the body of the butterfly.  The stamped image is by PTI from the Mega Mixed Messages stamp set.  I added a Prima and a glitter brad to finish off the card.  The papers were all scraps in my bin.  Scraps have never looked so pretty!

Floral Sympathy Card

Hey everyone...It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail.  The project I am sharing today is inspired by a Pinterest find.  I didn't copy the card so much, as I took a few elements of the card I found and made them work for what I had on hand.

I liked the wide banner cut from the original card and I liked it paired with an oval.  When I put my oval over the banner, it just didn't look right, so I offset the banner to the left and really liked the result.  Here's a tip....I really, really like this layout and plan to use it a lot going forward.  I saved the banner and ovals as a .studio file to cut out with my Cameo going forward.  I started a new file folder of card layouts like this one, so that when I am in need of a quick card, I can go back to a "tried and true" layout that I know I like.  

For this card, the patterned papers are by Echo Park For the Record 2.  The stamps are by My Craft Spot, as is the jute twine.  I added three yellow pearls, to bring out the pretty yellow tones in the floral paper.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hi Everyone!  It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail and I'm thrilled to be sharing a project with you today here at She's A Sassy Lady.  Do you send St. Patrick's Day cards?  I send a few, not really because there's much significance to the holiday to my family....but rather it's a good excuse to let people know we are thinking of them by sending a handmade card their way.  

Here's one I made recently....check it out:

 

The large balloon is a cut I found in the Silhouette Online Store.  I tied some jute twine around the balloon and used some balled up glue dots that I rubbed between my fingers until they were just a fine line of adhesive to adhere the twine in that curly-que pattern.  I used the negative cut at the bottom of the card on that little banner.  It's always nice to use negative cuts--makes me feel resourceful!  The sentiment is a stamp by SP&Company (no longer in business).  This was an easy card so if you need to make a bunch...this is a great design to use. And, it could easily be adaptable to a birthday design!

Custom Gift and a Hello!

Hello Everyone!

My name is Kenya and I am one of the newest members of She’s a Sassy Lady! I am so ecstatic about being a part of this group and being able to share my projects with each of you! I hope you enjoy them just as much :) I also hope to bring a little sassiness to the team!

Just to share a little about myself: I am a married. My husband and I celebrated 15 years of marriage back in December. We have four daughters (10, 8, 6 (will be 7 next week) and 5 years old) and one son (4 months old). Yep, you read right; I am a mother to five wonderful children! I have been an “official” crafter for 5 years. I like to create everything from cards to mixed media! I am a cutting machine/tool junky! You will get to know that more as time progress LOL.

For my first project, I made a custom gift for someone. This gift was inexpensive to make as well as easy! I purchased a glass cutting board from the Dollar Tree. I already had vinyl on hand from a  different project and I used a file from the Silhouette Store. 

I opened Silhouette Studio Software and placed my image on the virtual mat. I did not need all of the parts of the file. I ungrouped the image and deleted what I did not need. 

Next I resized my image and moved the utensils how I wanted them on the mat. I then used a true type font for the name of the family. I used the Character Spacing/Kerning feature in the software which can be found under Text Style. Once I was satisfied with the kerning, I welded the name together. 

I grouped all of the images. Because the vinyl was going on the underside of the glass, I had to flip the image. 

I cut out the image and applied it to the cutting board. I must note, I cleaned the cutting board prior to applying the vinyl to ensure good contact of the vinyl to the glass. This is very durable and should last the recipient for years to come.

Hello.....Valentine!

Hi Everyone!  It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail and I am sharing a Valentine's Day card with you today.  I have been trying to use my Copic markers more this year, so no better time to break them out then when making Valentines!

I started off by using two scraps of patterned paper from the Echo Park "Love Story" 6 by 6 paper pad to create my background.  I stamped the sentiment at the bottom using an older CTMH stamp set called "Whooo's Your Valentine". The image of the girl and "Hello" are from My Favorite Things Stamps "Best Friends" stamp set.  I colored the image with Copics, then added a few Stickles to her bow and flower.  Instead of stamping on a boring shape...I cut out a heart with a mat using my Cameo and used that to stamp the image on.  I inked the edges and added a few pearl accents.  The best tip I can give you from making this card....that crinkle ribbon?  Yes, it is indeed cute, but I struggle sometimes with how to use it with much success.  If you straighten it out, it looses some pizzazz, but if you leave it bunched up, it doesn't stick well using really any adhesive I tried.  When this happens, I go a bit "old school" and break out my hot glue gun!   Yep, that did the trick!  Just a thin line of hot glue and gently press down the crinkle ribbon and you get a nice result.  Be careful, though....the ribbon is thin and that glue can get HOT!

Friends!

Happy 2015!!!

Lori here from ScrappinMyStressAway.  I am excited to be featured at She's A Sassy Lady today!

One of my resolutions this year is to spend/invest more time with my friends!  I get caught up in my job and being mom.  Many of you know I am a daycare provider 50 hours a week.  I love it most of the time and my biggest bonuses are kisses, smiles and hugs!!

I am also a uniform washing, carpool driving, gatorate fetching and loudly cheering baseball mom,  I am involved with Tanner's school parties and field trips and play dates.  

All of this leaves me partially fulfilled and totally exhausted!!

It is easy to say no thanks when friends call.  It is easy to veg on the couch with a good book.  I am going to start saying yes more often.  I am going to line up a babysitter or evening with Mimi and Papa when Mike's work takes him out of town.

I am not a big wine drinker, but I do enjoy pedicures, shopping, lunch and movies with friends!

I made my sign by selecting this image from the Silhouette store.  I filled in the color and sent it to my printer.  I printed on laminated burlap and trimmed it to fit an 8x8 tin.  The tin is from Michaels in the dollar bins.

I inked the edges of the burlap and glued it to the tin.  I have a tutorial for a similar project HERE.

This is a small sign to remind me of a big resolution!!!  I hope you have a wonderful 2015!!!

Prancing Reindeer

Hi Everyone!  It's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail and I'm thrilled to be sharing my 12th and final "monthly holiday card share".  If you've been reading along with She's a Sassy Lady for awhile, you probably recall that I committed to share with you a Christmas card each month of the year in hopes that you were inspired to get an early jump on your cards.  I really enjoyed spreading this task out and it certainly feels good to have a nice supply of cards already built up after making them all year long.  

And now for my final card....

 

I have to be honest...it's my personal favorite.  So traditional, yet with more modern colors!  That lovely reindeer is a cut from the Silhouette online store. The paper is Echo Park Tis the Season.

 

This greeting is a rub-on by American Crafts.  I've had it for ages.  Another goal of mine for 2014 (besides creating holiday cards all year long), was to spend little and create more.  I put a lot of treasures, like these rub-ons, to good use this past year.  I really didn't feel like I stifled my creativity one bit.  I truly enjoyed using what was in my room.  I cut into a lot of pretty paper with reckless abandon! 

 

I used up a ton of tiny little brads on the deer's antlers. I  think it added the perfect little "something."

All I want for Christmas is....

Hi everyone...it's Sonya from Sonya's Paper Trail.  If you've been following along for awhile, you know that I'm sharing a holiday creation each month when my design team day rolls around.  This month, rather than share a card I'm going to share a scrapbook page that I have created that will hold my son's photo taken with Santa Claus.

The picture that I will put in the mat is 5 by 7, so the mat takes up a lot of the page.  I cut the title and the scalloped edge using my Cameo.  The papers are by Echo Park and are from the "Tis the Season" scrapbooking kit, which continues to be one of my favorite holiday lines.  The tag was also from that kit.  It's a simple page, but the fun papers are perfect and I think the title is a great match for a picture with Santa Claus.

Happy Christmas: April Christmas Card Inspiration

Hi everyone!  It's Sonya here today from Sonya's Paper Trail....is anyone making holiday cards all year long like I am?  This is my second year of spreading the holiday card making process out throughout the year and I enjoy it so much more than being flooded with card making at an already busy time of the year.  The card I have to share with you today is one of my favorites so far!

Once again, this is a card design that could very easily be repeated over and over--and it uses up some scraps!  The paper I used is Echo Park Tis The Season.  It's become one of my favorite lines of holiday paper and I'm not wasting any scraps of it.

 

I had to show you the glitter "berries" I added to the grapevine wreath.  I simply added some dots of Stickles for some added shine.
