Snow Angel

Hi everyone.  It's Karon here from Karon's Krafty Korner.

Stopping by to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.  Thanks Sheila, for letting me come visit.

Today,s creation is another book art sample.  The last time I posted, was my Christmas tree, using the same technique.  However, this time - you turn the book upside down for several of the pages - so that you get wings :-)  A great tutorial for this, can be found here at Five Go Blogging.

I decided to make a bottom for the angel using cork pot stands - so I first coated the cork in Gesso, just one coat would be enough, but I gave it two :-)

Then I gave it a coat of silver acrylic paint.  I am so pleased with how this turned out!

You can see the angel there in the background - looking a little headless LOL!

Anyways, after spraying her with some Perfect Pearls - Perfect Pearl is the colour I used, I also added a little more sparkle with some very fine glitter glue.

Her head is just a Christmas bauble, I kept the silver hanger attached to it, as I thought it made the perfect collar.

I couldn't resist adding some silver ribbon to her head and base.

Of course, as she is a Snow Angel I had to add some lovely silver snowflakes.

I finished off the base of the angel with some wired star garland, after all she is up in the stars and clouds there :-)

I was tempted to add a face to the bauble, but thought that may spoil it.  Less is more, as they say.

Maybe you could give it a go, with some old books that you may have.

From Trash to Treasure!

Hello everyone.  It's Karon here from Karon's Krafty Korner for my monthly visit here at She's A Sassy Lady.  Thank you so much for letting me come visit and share with you, Sheila.

Today I have something a little different to share with you all. Grab a coffee and stay awhile.

Have you ever wondered what to do with those books you no longer want.

Well, I recently found this great tutorial on You tube to change a book into a holiday tree.

I just couldn't resist doing this and found the folding quite relaxing.  You need to have a book that has 150 pages or more.  Start off folding the pages.  Here's the first few folded.

The first 50 folded :-)

You keep going to at least 150, don't think you will get much more than that but you can try.  Just remove any excess pages and your done.

I then sprayed it with some Tim Holtz Bundled Sage Distress Ink.  Also some Perfect Pearls mist, Heirloom Gold and then I had to add some really fine Glitter glue, to give it a little more sparkle.

Next up, some luxury ribbon, and a lovely star.  The star was from Michaels, there were three and they are called Merry Mini's.  They are meant to be hanging ornaments but I cut off the small link and was able to use it for the top of my tree :-)

Then came the fun part, finishing it off.  I wanted to make it into a table decoration.  I took the lid from a 9" round Christmas gift box and used it as the stand.  I placed the tree on a little lid (just to raise it up a bit) from another small box.  

The tiny little gift boxes, were cut using my Silhouette Cameo and the box from Birds Cards, I sized them in Silhouette Design Studio, so that my finished boxes were 1.5" square, 0.75" square and even as small as 0.5" square. Then added some ribbon to make them look really Christmassy.

Father Christmas was just a little find at the Dollar Store, he is the perfect size for my little centre piece.

I so enjoyed making this and can see me making more, I might even make some for gifts.

And there you have it, from "trashy" novel to a Christmas treasure.  What do you think?

I think I will have to make another one, because I would like to see if I could add some miniature Christmas lights to one :-)

A little Etty Post :-)

Hi everyone.  It's Karon here from Karon's Krafty Korner.  Popping in for a quick visit to day. Thanks Sheila for putting up with me :-)

Today, I decided to have a go at using the Mojo Monday sketch, as my mojo sort of took a break recently.  Here is the card I came up with.

I used all elements from one of the new Polkadoodles CD's.  This is the Winston Deluxe Papercrafting Collection and is now also available for immediate download and can be found here.

This is Etty and I used one of the decoupage design sheets, that are in this fabulous collection.

There are so many lovely images, embellishments and amazing selection of papers.  This is Collection is truly wonderful and so versatile.

For the inside I did the same layers as the front, and added a pink panel to leave a message and couldn't resist adding another picture of that fabulous post box!

And finally another shot of the outside.  I inked all the edges of all the layers with CTMH Cotton Candy and added a little pearl dot to the little flower.

I love how crisp this looks, the papers are so wonderful.

Still Using up those Scraps :-)

Hi everyone.  It's Karon here from Karon's Krafty Korner.  Thanks so much Sheila for letting me come visit each month.

I have another card, made from scraps to share with you this month.  I am working my way through my colour scraps, and as you can see from this card, I am on purples :-)

First off I dug out some scraps from my stash.

As I was going to die cut some flowers, using the Heartfelt Creations Delicate Asters, I used the negative as a stencil and inked up one of the papers with flowers.

Then it was just a case of putting the card together.  I inked all the edges of all the layers too.

For the inside, I used the same papers as the front, then added a small panel to leave a message, using the stencil again to add one inked flower.

To finish off the front I added a couple of ticket sentiments, that are from a Polka Doodles CD.

And that's all from me folks :-)

Using Up those Scraps

Hi everyone.  Karon here from Karon's Krafty Korner, for my little visit.

I have had a really big sort out of my craft room and therefore have been trying to use up a lot of my scraps - and I do have a lot of scraps!!

Here is my card for today, and I will explain how I made it below. I am using up my 8" by 3" cards from the UK.

I used a 1.5" punch to cut out a pile of circles from my scraps.  I am working my way through my colour drawers, so it's greens today :-)

I got a piece of plain card stock (yep from my scraps) and covered it with double sided sticky tape.  Then I placed my first layer of circles.

The second layer of circles I inked up, and then placed over the spots that remained to be covered. Trimmed it down to fit my card.

Next up, I used some more scraps (told you I have a lot LOL) and made some flowers.  I was inspired to make these flowers by Desire of Doing Life, and here is the link to her great tutorial for them.  Thanks for sharing Desire.  The tiny butterfly is from Birds Cards and the sentiment is from a Polkadoodles CD.

For the inside I just added a cream panel to the patterned paper and stamped it with some tiny butterflies.

And there you go, a card from scraps.

Summer Reading - need a bookmark :-)

Hi everyone.  It's Karon here from Karon's Krafty Korner, to share my creation with you today.  Thanks so much Sheila for having me once again.

I decided that I need a few bookmarks this summer for some great reads that I want to get through.  I decided to have a play in Silhouette Design Studio and make a scalloped edge bookmark.

Here is the bookmark I made using all elements from the new Polkadoodles CD - Rose Budd Papercrafting Collection.

I thought I would share with you how I designed the bookmark in Silhouette Design Studio and how to add the scalloped edge.

Firstly, I am using a rounded rectangle that I have sized to 6" by 2.50".  Then make a little oval to the size that you would like your scallop to be.  I have made mine 0.5" wide and 0.75" high.  I then made five of them and grouped them together for easy manoeuvring.

Now you can move the set of ovals into place.  I have placed them so about 2/3rds of the oval are inside the line of the bottom of bookmark.  You must position them so that the natural curve is on the line, as below.

Now you want to select both the rectangle and the ovals, then right click and select Weld.

This is what your screen should now look like.

You can then resize your bookmark using the scale.  I made mine back to 6" by 2.5".

You could now resize this to what ever you wish.  Also If you want more scallops to the edge, you can play around with the size of the oval at the start, and the amount of them.  Hope that this has made sense.

Here is a close up of the image from the Rose Budd Papercrafting CD, this is Miss Millicent.

Her dress was digitally pieced together (may be another tutorial on the way, if you like) with papers from the CD and then highlighted with Copics.  Here are the Copics I used to colour her in.

Everything is from the CD, I layered up the little roses and Miss Millicent, but that is all.  After all it's meant to be a book mark and I didn't want it too thick, or else it would get squished :-)

I added a little ribbon to the top.  I did double sided printed, so that the back of the book mark was not white.  Also inked the edges of the layers to finish them off.

A Little Thank You.

Hi everyone. Karon here from Karon's Krafty Korner and it is that time of the month for me to share something with you all here at She's a Sassy Lady.   Thanks so much Sheila and big hugs coming your way.

I had the occasion to make a little thank you card the other day and I decided to use the Mojo Monday sketch this week.  I am not one to use sketches very often as I tend to take them too literally.  Even on this one I had to add that little envelope and sentiment.  I was sorely tempted to also add a flower or butterfly in the dead space above the sentiment :-), but I didn't, I refrained LOL!

I love this wonderful image from Mo's Digital Pencil, it comes from a lovely set of three baby fairies.  I have coloured her in pencils for a change.  The die cut for the image and the inside of the card is from a free set that came with my Genius Platform.

I added some lovely American Crafts Mini Glitter Brads - Blush, to the ribbon and the flags (or tags, or strips of paper with inverted points cut into them - whatever you may call them LOL!).

The main layer and the image layer have been popped up on to foam tape, not only to add dimension to the card, but also so I wouldn't have unsightly bumps in the paper from the brads :-)

I couldn't resist adding that little envelope QuicKutz die and then the little ticket sentiment.

For the inside complimentary papers and a white space for adding a note.  The little flower stamp is from a CTMH stamp set called A Garden Occasions, which I have shadow stamped a second time.

And there you have a very purple card, but hey I like purple :-)

How I make Shaped cards in Silhouette Design Studio!

Hi everyone.  Karon here, from Karon`s Krafty Korner.  Thanks Sheila, for letting me come by every month.

Today, I thought I would share with you, how I use Silhouette Design Studio to design shaped cards.

Firstly, I tend to look for digis that will be balanced when cut.  So, straight edges or places on the bottom line that are level.  I think you can probably, just about, do any digi image and make it into a full size card.

So import the digi that you feel is suitable and open it in Design Studio.  Today I am using an easel and image from the new Work and Play 3 Collection, at Polkadoodles.  I am going to make a Thank you card for a teacher :-)

If you click on the images, it will make them larger.

I have traced the image and then I offset the image by 0.125 using the offset tab.

Taking the offset image, I then flip it using the Replicate tab, and Mirror above.

Then I take the flipped image, and bring it down to the lower image, until it meets nicely, at a position I feel comfortable using. (depending on the image, and whether you are doing a mirror above, or mirror left right - the principle is the same)

Group the images together and then right click and weld, and you will end up with a card base ready to cut. 

At this point I also place the original image on the card base and size it how I want it.  Then separate the images once again.

I cut the card base first on kraft card, then using the print and cut feature I cut out the easel and the image (to be coloured). Scoring the card base using my score board.

Pop them all together and add a sentiment.  There you have it - a great teacher appreciation card.

I popped the teacher up onto some pop dots to add some dimension.

For the inside, just some little numbers and white area, to add your message.

And there you have it a great card for a teacher.
