It's Kelly from www.kamscraftyplace.blogspot.com. I'm afraid I haven't been able to do my design for today. I have had a nightmare month and it hasn't settled down yet.
So I thought I'd take this opportunity to say Thank You to Sheila for having me as a guest designer this year and I am looking forward to the New Year and the projects I plan to do for you all then. Thank you for all of your generous comments. I really appreciate them.

A New Year's Treat

Happy Monday everyone! Aymee Gandy from A Scraphappy Southernbelle here to share a easy project I created for my family/friends for New Year's. First of all, I would just like to say that I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas with your family! I was planning on spending the holidays alone with just my husband at home. We live about 12 hours away from our family in Alabama and he just could not get off work. Well, the next thing I knew, Brandon (that's the hubby) calls me up and lets me know we are flying out of Baltimore to see our family for Christmas. We left on Christmas Eve and flew back on Christmas day. So it was a super short trip, but it was so nice to spend our holiday with our family. We even got a white Christmas, which is so rare in Alabama. We had a grand time!

Anyways, let's get back to scrappin'! I created this treat box using my Gypsy and the following Cricut cartridges:

2. Tags, Bags, Boxes, & More

Inside each box, I have placed a packet of gourmet cocoa/coffee drink mix. This could easily be re-created with any type of cocoa, tea, or drink of your choice. You could even use things like fruit snacks, oatmeal, or any packaged food depending on who is receiving this gift.

Here is a picture of what I would like to show you in this quick tutorial:

First, after measuring my drink packets, I sat down and designed the project using my Cricut Gypsy. I chose the box from 'Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More.' The box already had a pre-cut window. Next, I welded a New Years Hat/Clock combo from 'Celebrate with Flourish.' Also, I knew I wanted to add a pocket to the back of the box so that I could slide a gift tag down inside. Luckily, I was able to design the box and the pocket for the tag all on 1-12x12" mat....this way I could cut the entire base of my project with one sheet of cardstock. I love that because many times I find I only have 1 piece of a certain sheet of cardstock. Here is what it looks like once the cut is made:

Next, I needed to score the lines for folding my box. Unfortunately, I do not have a fancy scoring tool, so I used my bone folder and the groove in my trimmer to score my lines. After scoring, I used my bone folder again to make smooth folds.

Now it was time to adhere my folds together to make the box. For my project, I turned to my favorite adhesive: Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. It works great! It dries super fast and I know it will provide the hold I need for this project.

Here is what it should look like when you have your box folded and are ready to slide in your packet of choice. I just love these gourmet coffee/drink mixes! They are divine! I became addicted to these when my family owned a gourmet coffee shop. It is an addiction that has stuck with me and I believe I am guilty of addicting a few others too....LOL.

As I mentioned before, I wanted to add a pocket to the back of the box to slide a gift tag down in. Here is a visual of the back of the box for you.

Again, I scored, folded, and adhered my pocket together....

Then I glued this onto the back of the box.

Voila'! My finished project! I added some Stickles glitter glue for some added bling. I also brought in some pearls. This paper is from My Mind's Eye.

Isn't this cut from 'Celebrate with Flourish' the best for New Years?! I also used the 'Happy New Year' cut from the same cartridge for my tags.

Tags and Tabs to Organize My Bags

Twas the Day Before Christmas, and all through the house, I'm thinking of New Year organization!    Hopefully, by now you have your gifts wrapped and are getting ready to celebrate this special time with your family.  First, I want to say that I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas.   I am so blessed with the friends I have made through my crafting world and am honored to be a part of the design teams I have and am currently on.  I'm Cher at Cheryl's Window and today, I am so thrilled to be a guest designer at She's a Sassy Lady.  Sheila, your blog rocks and we love you! 

So, with all my Christmas preparations done, I'm already thinking of the New Year.  This means a new start, a new year, and a deep clean at my house as I purge and organize.   And, I'm starting by better organizing my Cricut cartridges.

Since I've been teaching weekly Cricut and Gypsy classes at my LSS, A Scrapbook Store & More, I needed to find a better way to transport my Cricut Expression and my Cartridges.   I usually travel with my Gypsy to crops, so my old system was fine, but I needed to actually have the cartridges and handbooks for my Cricut classes. 

Paula got some of the CGull totes in the store.  I decided these would be a much easier way of transporting my Cricut and carts since they had great handles and the Expression bag actually has wheels.

Next, I decided I needed some luggage tags to differentiate my bags from anyone else's.  I used my Gypsy and Paper Lace cartridge to design my luggage tags. I will admit that I MUST be doing something wrong with this cartridge. If I unlock the proportion width/height and alter the lace images, I cannot get the layer to come in at the same proportionate size. It does come in at the right height as my altered base, but not width. Is anyone else having this problem with Paper Lace? OK, so I manually adjusted the base layer to be just a tad bigger than my lace layer. I used the font from the same cartridge and welded the letters to create my tag labels.

I love the detail that cuts so nice on this cartridge and I'm sure this will quickly become one of my favs for cards and backgrounds (if I can figure out the layering / size issue).

I layered it all together and put the new tag shape in a Luggage Tag Hot Pocket by Purple Cows and ran it through my Purple Cows laminator.

Next, I added a little extra dimension with some new products I got at SSM by Viva Decor. I used Glass Effects Gel in amber to trace my letters right over the laminate. This stuff is great in that it will work on plastic, glass, paper, acrylic, and metal. It also retains its dimension after drying. I am IN LOVE!! I also added a few pearls using Pearl Pens, also by Viva Decor. I like that they are a great size to use and don't leave little points on the top of my pearls. They are self-leveling so they create a nice domed pearl and, again, stay dimensional once dried.

Isn't this dimension great?  It stays this way when dry!  Shiny and dimensional.

After adding a little Tim Holtz jewelry, my bags are tagged.   However, I have more cartridges than will fit in one CGull cartridge tote and I was struggling with how to carry the handbooks and overlays and be able to actually USE them and find them.   My solution was to stand then on end and apply little tabs to them.   First, I separated my holiday-themed cartridges and my licensed 'themed" cartridges (Tinkerbell, Superman, etc.).   I kept these in my original Snapware storage system.  This left me with my everyday cartridges that now fit in my tote.   I still have some extra room to add any holiday or licensed cartridges I may currently be using.   As my collection grows, I may need to separate some others, but for now, this is working.   

I decided to use my Imagine to cut my tabs for my handbooks.  I used a tab found on From My Kitchen and a pattern from Nursery Tails.    I edited the tab to be 3" relative size (1.5" true size) and chose the pattern I wanted.   I then chose to auto-fill the page with these tabs and chose to create multiple projects and cut out a few pages of tabs.   

Since these are fairly small, I decided to use my label maker to add the name of the cartridge (or easily recognizable abbreviation) to both sides of the tab and used my ATG to adhere to edges of cartridge handbooks.  

They now are in alphabetical order, easy to read, and easy to find in my tote bag.

Simple project, but lots of fun to put together. And now, I'm organized to start off the New Year right and my bags will be easily identified at a class or crop!  I hope this inspires you to create some organization to your Cricut supplies for the New Year.  You could easily use anything to make your own tags and tabs.  Personalize them for you.

A “Charmed” Note Card

Merry Christmas! I’m so pleased to be here with you today. With all of the Christmas festivities drawing to a close, I’m finding myself in need of charming little cards ready to carry personal notes to friends and families. With my Gypsy in hand, I set forth to create just such an item.

The card measures 4.5” squares, uses minimal supplies and can be completed quickly!

The Recipe

• 1 – 12 x 12” piece of dark cardstock (I used Michael’s Jewel Tones)
• I- 6 x 12” piece of neutral cardstock
• 1- 6” square piece of design paper
• ribbon, ink and glue
• The Initial and backgrounds are from Cindy Loo, the card from Just Because.

Gift box and treats created for the Circle Blog Monthly Challenge

Hi everyone, this is Beth again from thunderbirdlindybydesign.  Today I wanted to share a gift I made for my SIL for Christmas.  I was browsing thru an older crafting magazine and I noticed an ad for Karen Foster Hexagon box with individual gift boxes inside counting down the 12 days of Christmas.  I did not have the box but thought is was a cute cute gift idea, so I took my Gypsy, George, Cricut, and lot's of patience, and made my own.  I started by welding triangles and rectangles to get a box that I could score and fold to create a triangle shaped box.  I could fit 2 on a page so I copied it. I cut this 6 times out of the Old Fashioned Christmas pad from Recollections that I got at Micheals.   With 12 boxes cut out, I scored and folded and glued them together.  I then needed a box to put them in.  I searched my Gypsy and came up with a hexagon shape and sized it 11.55x11x55 and cut out the bottom of the box.  I then took 1 sheet of 12x12 cardstock and cut 3 pieces that were 12x4, and scored them 1/2 on one long side. I then started the task of glueing and folding these to the base hexagon to created the bottom of the box.  After that was done, I was 1 section short, so I cut one more 12x4 and used what I needed from it.  So in all I needed 4, 12x4 pieces of cardstock scored on the long side 1/2" in from the long side.

 

To make the lid, I cut the same hexagon again, but added a snowflake cut in the middle of the lid.  I had to create the sides the same way for the lid as I did for the bottom, except I cut the 4 pieces 12x2 and then scored 1/2" from the long edge and glued them to the bottom of the lid.

I cut graffix plastic to fit behind the snowflake cut out, adhered, and where you could see thru the snowflake, I took stickles in clear and smeared it around on the plastic with my fingers.

After the boxes were completed I needed to dress them up a bit.  I cut 2 sizes of scallops one in red and one in white, 12 times, and then cut the count down numbers 12 to 1 in black.

Here is the finished gift.

The rules for Monthly Circle Blog Challenge states you need to use 2 cuts from your cricut, red, ribbon, a phrase and a tag, so I added the above to finish the look.

I also added some really cute dimensional stickers I got from the Dollar Bin at Micheal's.

I am going to stuff either white tissue paper in the empty spaces, or use the shredded paper in green or red.  I did not have any in time for this post.  I started filling the boxes with treats, and am planning on adding a gift cart to her favorite store.  I hope she doesn't see this before Christmas.

The Polar Express...

Hello my crafty friends, and Merry Christmas to you all! This is Kristy from craftin-on-my-door and I am super excited to be sharing here today at She's a Sassy Lady! Thanks Sheila  for the opportunity!

My family and I just returned {yesterday} from the Polar Express, We went with some friends of ours and had a fantastic time! While we were there we visited the gift shop. My friend Shannon found an adorable scrapbook kit, but it was a little over priced if you know what I mean. She really wanted it for the "Believe ticket." That's when I thought...I can make that on my Gypsy!!!! So, during the ride home I designed with the help of my G!

I started by using a ticket on the Fabulous Finds cart, and used the hide feature to hide the inside cut. It was a little too chubby so I "unlinked" the w/h and set it at 9.88"w x 4.53"h. Then, I used Cherry Limeade for the BELIEVE. It was sized at 1.94" and then tilted at 9.00.

I placed BELIEVE in the middle of the ticket.

For the hole punched effect I used a circle from Accent Essentials and sized it at .22". This is the part that took FOREVER, but we had a 4 1/2 hour trip home so I had the time! I copied and pasted circles into each letter until I got the look I was looking for. Then I deleted the actual letters and grouped all of circle letters together.

I made two, one for my friend Shannon and one for myself.

For the train I used the Christmas cart. The train and blackout train were cut out at 2.65"h. The cars and blackout cars were cut at 2.41"h. Then, I attached a light yellow strip of paper behind the windows. These were cut at 1" x 3".

The bells are also from the Christmas cart. They were cut at 1.24"h. The band and bow were on the same key together so I took turns hiding one and then the other so that I could cut them in different colors. I made the band a little larger and cut them at 1.31"h, and the the bows at 1.27"h.

I also made a wreath for the front of the train. This was done using the Christmas cart, and was cut at 1.50"h.
For the title I used Plantin Schoolbook at cut it at .84"h. (This font matched the actual title the best.)

Like I said we just got back yesterday (Monday) afternoon, so I have not had time to print my pics yet. There is a 5 x 7 of my Little Stinkerbella and her friend Emma sitting on Santa's lap.
