Adding Layers

 Hello! Leah from Paperblossoms here to share a simple technique I use all the time while designing my cards, layering. I have been a card maker for about 7 years or so now and I have tried to improve my own personal style as well as learn from others. One thing that I noticed early on in my papercrafting is that the more eye catching creations have a lot more layers and interesting details going on. When I sit down to create a card I usually don't really have a complete picture of it my mind already, so I'll start with a basic layout and focal image and build from there.
Here is where the above card started. I knew what focal image I wanted and started the layering by placing the flowers on a tag. I layered the sentiment on top of the tag as well. This would be an o.k card, but not great. Bringing in contrasting colors to make your image pop is good as well as other layers of shapes and paper patterns. For my card I chose to layer a black mat behind the polka dot base as well as the dark teal oval to kind of frame my tag and focal image. I also added a small border to the bottom of the tag which helps ground it. The final details I added were machine stitching and sequins. Even though I have gotten a lot more comfortable with my own style I still need to remind myself of this design tip when creating. When I don't I'm not nearly as happy with the outcome. I hope you'll be inspired to create something yourself today! Thanks so much for visiting.

Supplies:
* Botanicals Cricut cartridge
* Inspired By Stamping Spring Blossoms (for the sentiment)
* Tag die and border die from PTI
* Sequins from Hobby Lobby

Great card! It is amazing what a few layers/details add!! I struggle with this too - nice to know I am not the only crafter who does not have a clear picture in her head before making a project!!!!

I love the transformation just by adding a few more layers ;). Nice color selection too.
